Born on August 22, 1862, in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, France, he was the eldest of five children in a modest family. His father, Manuel-Achille Debussy, ran a china shop, and his mother, Victorine Manoury Debussy, was a seamstress.

Debussy’s musical talent was evident from an early age. He began piano lessons at the age of seven and entered the Paris Conservatoire at ten. His years at the conservatory (1872-1884) were formative, marked by rigorous training but also by his growing resistance to the strictures of conventional music education.
In 1884, Debussy won the prestigious Prix de Rome with his cantata "L'enfant prodigue," granting him the opportunity to study in Rome.
However, his time in Italy was less productive than expected; Debussy was more interested in pursuing his music
