          Biography

          Otakar Boruvka entered the Gymnasium in Uherské Hradiste in 1910 when he was eleven years old. He continued to study there until 1916 but, of course, by this time Europe was in the midst of World War I.

          The war was unpopular with the Czech people, and the press was censored and public meetings were forbidden. With the influence of the military increasing, Boruvka went to the military school in Hranice in northern Moravia.
